Millars Bar Ballycarry

If you ever find yourself wandering through the charming village of Ballycarry in Northern Ireland, there’s one local spot you absolutely can’t miss: Millars Bar Ballycarry. Tucked away on 46 Main St, Ballycarry, Carrickfergus BT38 9HH, this rustic yet modern restaurant-bar combo has become a community favorite-and for very good reasons.

From the outside, Millars Bar may seem like your typical local pub, but step inside and it’s an entirely different story. Warm lighting, a cozy fireplace, and lively chatter set the mood for both casual lunches and memorable nights out. The wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating also make it an inclusive space where everyone can enjoy the vibe without a hitch. Whether you're flying solo or catching up with friends, the space feels welcoming and unpretentious.

Now, let’s talk food. The Guinness Draught is practically a ritual here, often paired with their rich and hearty Beefburger or the irresistible Chicken Wings ‘N Hot Sauce. If you’re in for a full meal, the Lobster and Chips or the Lobster Special steals the show, especially for seafood lovers. These aren’t just plates-they’re events.

Feeling like something sweet? Their dessert game is seriously strong. The Tiramisu and Pavlova are standouts, but the Lemon Meringue Pie and Dulce de Leche Cheesecake might just tempt you into ordering more than one. Pair it with a smooth Champagne or a bold Whisky, and you’ve got yourself a finish worth writing home about.

Aside from the food, the drink selection is another highlight. Whether you're a craft beer aficionado or a wine enthusiast, Millars Bar has a well-curated list that caters to different palates. Their cocktails are playful yet balanced, and the happy-hour drinks are a smart reason to drop in early. There’s even dancing on certain nights, which adds to the bar’s already energetic atmosphere.

The vibe here isn’t just about good drinks and better food-it’s about comfort and connection. Sports lovers will appreciate the screens placed strategically for viewing matches, while those just wanting a peaceful lunch can easily find a quiet corner. Coffee is more than just an afterthought here too-it’s strong, fresh, and often paired with a slice of Torte or Cheesecake, ideal for mid-afternoon stops.

Takeaway options are available for those on the go, though the dine-in experience is where Millars truly shines. There’s no delivery option, but honestly, it’s worth the trip. If you’re nearby Carrickfergus or exploring County Antrim, this is one of those places that locals recommend without hesitation.

What really sets Millars Bar Ballycarry apart from other pubs and restaurants in the area is its versatility. It's great for lunch crowds, equally buzzing at dinnertime, and surprisingly good for solo dining-a rare quality that says a lot about the space and the service. Whether you're popping in for a quick bite, settling in for a late-night meal, or simply sipping a drink at the bar while soaking in the local flavor, there’s always a place for you here.

With its blend of traditional Irish charm and modern hospitality, this place has carved out its own lane in the Ballycarry dining scene. From the exceptional service to the finely tuned food and drink offerings, Millars Bar isn’t just a pub-it’s an experience worth coming back to.

Great food, we had a variety of chicken goujons and burgers, with garlic fries, sweet potato fries. Sundaes and cheesecakes for dessert. Great atmosphere to watch the rugby on a big screen. Girls serving extremely helpful and friendly. It was my birthday and they brought out a cake! Was a great way to celebrate.

First time visiting Millars Bar Ballycarry, and it most definitely won’t be our last. Stopped in for something quick to eat, without a reservation , which wasn’t an issue. The menu had so many tasty options , the hardest part was narrowing down on what to pick. We all picked something different and no one was disappointed. Daughter even announced ‘Best pizza she’s ever had!’, which is saying something as she loves pizza. Priced reasonably, big portions and everything came out piping hot. It was busy as we were leaving so I didn’t get more photos. Millars is a quaint, traditional pub, with a cosy feeling, they had an open fire warming the room, friendly welcoming staff who were very attentive. We look forward to our next visit and recommending to friends & family.
